The moon is the only natural satellite of the earth, it’s visible from earth’s surface, it shows us different faces every three days, in a length of 29 days it completes a rotation. Different moon faces are seen during a period called lunar cycle, this cycle is 29 days long and there are eight phases. These faces are referred to as phases of the moon, one main reason the moon is visible is because the sun’s light reflects it in different positions that is why it has different faces. This celestial body does not produce light by itself, orbit rotation of the moon enables the sun to reflect light on the moons surface.
When that moon is big or growing bigger, it’s said that that moon is waxing but if it’s shrinking, it’s waning, more than half-lit, it’s gibbous. Moons orbiting takes 27 days to make one complete revolution on its axis, whereas this lunar moon cycle takes 29 days which is rotation from a new moon till the next new moon. This adds up to one calendar month, a total of 354 days is needed to make a full-year movement but there were added a few days that’s 11 days.
New moon is a result of when the Moon is between the sun and Earth, one side of the moon is receiving all the light, while the side visible from the planet is dark. Except the edges which are slightly noticeable, when the Moon is on the other side of the world it receives total reflection and the moon is fully detectable, this moon. It’s then called a full moon, these two phases of the satellite are usually seen in the starting and ending of orbital rotation of the moon, other phases come in between these two phases.
Living without a moon would last from six to twelve hours, there could be up to or more than a thousand-days in just one full year. When you look up during daytime, you can see the moon, it’s not shining yet can be seen, especially if you are watching during sunrise. Gravitational forces results in slowing down earth’s rotation due to the pull of the moon. You will see the moon fading as the sun becomes intense by outshining it, new moon rises at sunrise and sets at sunset without being seen, full moon rises at sunset, sets at sunrise. Waxing crescent is seen it orbits further from sunlight, first quarter rises at noon although it sets at midnight, third quarter rises at midnight yet sets at noon. It’s also called daytime moon because it’s noticeable till noon.
Waning crescent moon is not well visible which is a last phase before becoming a new moon gain. This cycle of a full moon to a new moon takes 21 days but each phase lasts about three to five days. The moon spins on its axis, it does not rotate, this movement around earth is called revolution. Satellite moon orbiting on its axis and on earth takes the same number of days which is confusing, there are about three planets visible during sunrise through night-time. This is because the planets unlike the moon have their light, a planet such as Venus shines through, it’s observable during the day and at night too.
The natural satellite is said to be owned by a man called Dennis Hope, he decided that he owned the moon, he then started selling land acres to people. A solo passenger has to pay 200 million dollars to pay a visit to space and land, two passengers can pay a hundred million dollars each, Dennis Hope earned money by selling moon land. People have paid millions of dollars to explore this natural satellite, some have even bought acres of land on the moon, a man who is said to own the moon has profited by selling that land and earning billions of dollars. It is dark in the moon so sun rays reflection makes it brighter.
Colouration of the moon is neither blue nor silvery even though it might appear that in your eye, when overhead it shows a blue tint whereas it hangs low in the sky, you might see it as silvery or white. Some times, it’s yellow or black.
